For the sixth time in nine seasons, the Thornhill Reds are the 2023 GTBL champions. Thornhill went a perfect 4-0 to repeat as champions, duplicating their 2013 and 2014 feat of back to back titles.
Junior Dan Meron pitched the Reds to a 5-4 game one win over Kendal, Cory Levy recording the final three outs for the save. Game two against the 0-1 Hawks saw Max Dieks throw seven complete knocking out Newmarket in a 5-2 Thornhill win. Mike Bannon won game three of the weekend for the Reds with a gritty 8-7 complete game win against East York, putting Thornhill in the final undefeated. Mack Major went seven strong innings at Talbot Park against host Leaside in the final, guiding the Reds to the 5-4 win and another Alex Stanley Memorial Trophy.
Outfielder Kravice Batts took home the GTBL Playoff MVP, leading the Reds with a .333 weekend, scoring four times and playing three different positions.
Overall the Reds had a very successful 2023 campaign. Thornhill lost in the Tillsonburg final with a 4-1 record, won their pool at the Hap Walters tournament, falling in the semi final, and made the top five of nineteen at the Provincial Championships in Windsor. The Reds followed up a 2023 GTBL Pennant with the 2023 GTBL championship, capping a strong showing on the Provincial spectrum.
Thornhill is already attracting talent for 2024, and the Reds are poised to make more noise.
