The Thornhill Reds battled back from a rough start, trailing 7-0 after two innings, to thump the Martingrove Sox 17-7.
It was a sweet homecoming for Reds first baseman Gianfranco Morello. Coming off a huge college season at Charleston U in West Virginia, the leadoff hitter went 4-4, with a towering three run home run in his return to a Thornhill uniform. Russ McGibbon chipped in three hits and three RBI, Warren Kember had a hit and three RBI as well, including a two run single in the home half of the eighth to end the contest.
Mitch Sutton(2-0) worked a scoreless fifth to grab the win in relief. Zach Lampreia and Adam Jafine both tossed a couple scoreless frames, and Hunter Greenough worked a three up three down inning, as the Reds bullpen was sharp once again.
Thornhill goes twice next week, Monday will be the first 2018 meeting with the East York Bulldogs, and Wednesday sees the Reds host Pickering in a rematch of the 2017 GTBL finals. Mack Major takes the ball for Thornhill on Monday, down at Stan Wadlow Park.
