Thornhill bats never quite got going, and the Reds dropped their 2018 GTBL opener 3-2 to the Leaside Leafs.
On a chilly night the Thornhill offence sputtered, and failed to cash in on a number of chances in the home opener. Josh Appel(0-1) started and took the loss for the Reds, allowing an earned run in three innings of work.
Kravice Batts started off his season on the right foot, with a 2-3 night including a triple to deep left center field. Newcomer Pat Orr also impressed in his GTBL debut, smashing a ninth inning lead off double that bounced off the top of the left field fence, and fanning two in one inning of mound work.
The Reds play twice next week, with a trip to Newmarket scheduled for Tuesday, and a home date with the Martingrove Sox on the slate for Wednesday.
