The Thornhill Reds took a 7-2 lead to the ninth inning, and hung on for a 7-6 opening day win against the much improved Martingrove Sox. The Reds defence was less than stellar through the night, including two errors in the four run ninth, but Harman Brar was able to strand the tying run at third base to secure the opening night win for the home side.

Mack Major(1-0) worked frames four to six, striking out six and allowing just one hit and no runs to pick up the win for Thornhill. Jaz Shergill made his return to the mound for the Reds a positive one, as he tossed three shutout innings to get Thornhill off to a positive start on the night.

Kravice Batts scored four runs and stole three bases, while Russ McGibbon blasted a two run home run to pace the Reds offense.

The Reds also are happy to announce they have signed RHP Andy Orfanakos for the 2019 season. The big righthander has pitched all over Europe, and in the IBL over the past few seasons. He is also a member of the Greek national team, making appearances for them in the WBC qualifying tournaments with great success. Look for Andy to jump right into the Thornhill rotation and have an immediate impact.
